Montana 1948
Technically a novella, this book packed a lot of story in just 175 pages.
The premise: The narrator, David, is an adult, telling the story of the summer he was 12, living in Montana. His father is the sheriff, his grandfather was previously the sheriff and his uncle is a doctor.
It was a tragic summer for his entire family on many levels. There is sickness, death, rape, suicide and so much more. This is a very emotional and thought provoking book for sure.
As David retells the story, he reconsiders some ideas his 12 year old self had about his family and sees it fresh with adult eyes.
If you are looking for a book that is light on pages but deep on substance, this is a great pick!!
