The Family Upstairs

The Family Upstairs by Lisa Jewell

This was one of my 5BIGR (Books I’m Gonna Read) this winter.  I have been trying to read this book for months, but it keeps getting pushed to the side for book club reads and library checkouts.  I finally picked it up and whoa…I loved it!

The Premise – The story is told by 3 narrators, one of which is Libby.  She knows she was orphaned and adopted and she knows her birth parents left something in trust for her, that she will receive when she is 25.  Her birthday comes, and a few days later she receives an official letter. She has inherited a big house in a wealthy neighborhood.

Upon visiting the house, she realizes there is more to her family’s story than she had expected.  With the help of an investigative journalist (who has spent years trying to figure out what and with whom her family was involved), they slowly unravel what happened over 25 years ago.

The other narrators played a role in the past, which we continue to guess at until the story culminates with us finally learning the truth.

This story kept me on the edge of my seat, waiting to learn what really happened!!  If you love a good mystery mixed in with some family drama, this book is for you!
