A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness
This is book #1 of The All Souls Trilogy. I read this series a few years ago, and was recently reminded of it when hearing someone suggest the series as their “go-to” Fall read. I remembered that I liked the books, but as I picked them up again, I was reminded that I loved them! Re-reading them is like coming home to an old friend.
The Premise: Humans, Witches, Demons and Vampires – Oh my! We have an Oxford historian witch, Diana Bishop. She spends her time in the research area of the campus library, looking at old texts on alchemy. She has a weird experience with an old book and soon she has caught the attention of some less than friendly witches, a few odd demons and the handsome and charming vampire, Matthew Clairmont. It’s everything there is to love about witches and vampires!
I especially enjoyed the yoga classes for creatures (no humans invited) and the wine tasting!! Who wouldn’t want to experience the wine cellar of a vampire? With libraries, wine, yoga and some witchy-ness…it’s like it’s written just for me!!
Occult fiction at it’s best, it’s Twilight for adults.
One of my all time favorites!!
