Home Before Dark by Riley Sager
In the summer I love a light and fluffy book or a sweeping adventure. But as October roles around, I tend to turn to books that are a little darker and a little spookier. There is nothing like a book about a haunted house to get me in the spooky autumn mood.
The Premise – Maggie has baggage. Her family is famous because they lived in a haunted house and her father wrote a book about it. The thing is, they lived in the house only 20 days and Maggie doesn’t remember any of it.
But when her father dies, she breaks her promise to him and returns to Baneberry Hall (aka The House of Horrors) to find out what the fuss is all about and to renovate it for resale.
This story alternates between Maggie’s story and chapters from her father’s book in a bone chilling and suspenseful manner that kept me on the edge of my seat until the very end.
If you are looking for a downright creepy ghost story, this could be a great book for you!
