“A Memoir of Loving and Leaving the Westboro Baptist Church”

If you are unfamiliar with the Westboro Baptist Church, take a moment to google them.  Let me just say, their website is godhatesfags.com.  What more do you need to know?

Apparently, a lot!  This is an eye-opening read about extremists, hate speech, religion doctrine and family drama.  In the same vein as Educated by Tara Westover, there were several times I had to remind myself that this isn’t a work of fiction, but a true story of Megan’s life.

This book proves to me the danger of the idea that our beliefs are the one true way, whether speaking of religion, politics or anything really.  No matter which side of the argument you’re on, open-mindedness and acceptance of others is the only way forward.

Kudos to Megan for leaving Westboro and for being brave enough to write this book.
