Britt-Marie Was Here

Britt-Marie Was Here by Fredrik Backman

I was given this book for Christmas and have actually been holding off on reading it because I love Backman and was enjoying the anticipation.  I finally decided enough was enough and it was time to give it a read.

The Premise: Britt-Marie is a socially awkward (I’m assuming neurodivergent) woman who finds herself recently separated from her cheating husband.  She has spent her whole adult life caring for her husband and his grown kids.  With few skills and no social connections, she turns to an employment agency for help.  They find her a job nobody else wants, overseeing a run-down and soon to be closed recreation center in a town that nobody wants to be in.

The story is cute and quirky and I just love Britt-Marie and I was sad to say good-bye to the characters when the book was over.

In reviewing Backman’s backlist, I realized there are 3 other backlist Backman books that I want to read –  My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She’s Sorry, The Deal of a Lifetime and Things My Son Needs to Know About the World.  And, he has a new book coming out in September.  I have some reading to do!!!
