The Poacher’s Son

The Poacher’s Son by Paul Doiron

Another crime thriller with a lot of “outdoorsiness”.

The Premise: Set in the Maine wilderness, we meet Game Warden Mike Bowditch.  We know he had a rocky upbringing, has been having women problems and he is losing his temper with people at work.  Then, after receiving a voicemail from his father, whom he has not heard from in over 2 years, he finds himself suspended and working unofficially to investigate a missing fugitive suspected of killing a cop.  Who is this fugitive….Mike’s dear-old dad.

In addition to the cast of very interesting characters, this novel had a very strong sense of place.  Doiron does an amazing job of describing the woods and the lakes.

This is the first of 13 books.  I don’t know if I enjoyed this enough to read the whole series, but I will definitely check out a couple more and see where that leads.
