First Frost by Sarah Addison Allen
It’s time for FALL READING!!! I love this time of year. It’s perfect for both light books with a hint of magical realism and creepy thriller/ crime books. This book is solidly in the first camp. This is a sequel to Garden Spells, but if you didn’t read it, no worries. First Frost will easily stand on its own. However, if you enjoy magical realism, you might want to pick it up first.
The Premise: The Waverly sisters are magical. In First Frost, we learn that the first frost of the season brings unpredictable upheaval to the sisters. This fall, a Doctor has moved to town that questions the herbal remedies that the sisters make. This leads the whole town down a path that I never would have expected.
If you read and enjoyed Garden Spells, you should definitely pick this up. If you haven’t read book number 1, but you liked Practical Magic by Alice Hoffman or The Lost Apothecary by Sarah Penner, decide if you want to start at the beginning or just jump in.
